Officials at Oak Park High School are hoping to stop the spread of norovirus after one case was recently confirmed and six students came down with similar symptoms.
Norovirus is a gastrointestinal illness commonly found on cruise ships. It causes severe inflammation of the stomach and intestines. Also known as stomach flu, viral gastroenteritis and food poisoning, it is highly contagious, passed person to person through direct contact by food, drink or contaminated surfaces. (Credit: CDC)
Parents were informed of the outbreak Wednesday in a districtwide email, which stated the Ventura County Environmental Health Division had confirmed the case and visited the school to instruct them on how to prevent the virus from spreading.
